Compliance services for freelancers

Background check

Clients now have the option to request background checks on their freelancers. A background check is a way for organizations to confirm the details of a person's past. This usually involves looking into their criminal history.

How it works

  1. Freelancers will receive email notifications from Fiverr and the third-party whenever a client requests a background check. Freelancer cooperation is essential for the process to move forward.
  2. Freelancers will be asked to electronically sign a disclosure, consent, and authorization form.
  3. Once a freelancer receives a request, they will have 7 days to give their consent through our third-party partner. If not completed within this timeframe, the request will expire, and the client will need to resubmit.
    • The freelancer can decline the background check by reaching out directly to Fiverr.

Note: Fiverr scores won't be impacted, and freelancers won't be penalized for declining a background check request.
  4. Once the background check is complete, freelancers will receive an email confirmation. Freelancers will also have the option to request their background check results if the selection was initially made through the onboarding process. Freelancers may log into the 3rd party account to check further.
    • Freelancers can initiate a dispute directly with the 3rd party if they believe the screening results are inaccurate.
    • The results of the background check will be visible only to the freelancer and the requesting client.

Worker classification

A worker classification audit is a service that Fiverr Pro provides for clients who have worked with freelancers for a longer period of time. To ensure compliance with relevant labor laws and regulations, conducting this audit helps clarify the nature of the working relationship between the freelancer and the client.

How it works

Clients must have made at least one payment with a freelancer either for a specific order or for hourly services in order to request an audit.

Once the client requests the background check, the following will take place.

  1. The freelancer will receive an email from Fiverr stating that the audit has been requested by their client and their cooperation is required.
Note: This is not a spam email.
  2. Freelancers will also receive an email from our trusted third party vendor requesting that the freelancer electronically signs a disclosure, consent, and authorization form.
  3. The freelancer will have up to 14 days to complete the onboarding process through our third party partner. If not completed, the invite will expire and the client will need to resubmit their request.
    • The freelancer can decline the audit by reaching out directly to Fiverr.
    • There will not be a dispute option available. This means that the outcome of a classification audit is final and cannot be changed.
Note: Fiverr scores won't be impacted, and freelancers won't be penalized for declining a worker classification request.
  4. Freelancers must answer questions about their client relationship during onboarding with our third-party vendor before the background check can proceed.
  5. Once the audit is complete, freelancers will receive an email confirmation. Freelancers may log into their 3rd party account to check further.
    • The results of the worker classification will be visible only to the freelancer and the requesting client.

Note: The audit process is handled by our trusted 3rd party and not directly by Fiverr. Fiverr is not liable for the outcome of the audit conducted by the 3rd party, and bears sole responsibility and accountability for the audit results. The decision to engage or decline to engage any freelancer remains entirely at the client's exclusive discretion.

Legal documents

Clients may request that a freelancer sign a legal document in order to protect their information, reduce potential risks and establish business agreements.

How it works

    1. The freelancer will receive an email from Fiverr requesting to sign a legal document. The freelancer will have up to 30 days to sign any e-documents. If not signed, the 3rd party link will expire and the client will need to resubmit their request.
        • The freelancer may be required to sign NDAs or other legal documents at the client's discretion.
    2. Once the client submits a legal document for signature, freelancers will receive an email with a third-party link.
Note: Fiverr scores won't be impacted, and freelancers won't be penalized for declining to sign any legal documents.
